Abstract

|
Wounds heal by scar formation, some of which require medical and surgical management for functional or cosmetic improvement. While our comprehension of the mechanism of wound repair and nature of the scar is advancing, our understanding is incomplete. So, many challenge to overcome scar formation has been developing in plastic surgical field.
This study is a new trial for improvement of treatment of scar. We used contact Nd:YAG LASER^TM system after conventional surgical scar revision methods. We treated 8 patients with contact Nd;YAG LASER and mean follow up periods is 10 month (7month to 12 month).
The results were as the follows.
1. Aesthetic result was superior to conventional scar revision methods.
2. We could avoid inadequate depth control which was disadvantage of the dermabrasion.
3. It was easily reproducible methods.
4. It was easy and quick methods.
Contact Nd;YAG LASER^TM is a useful method for scar revision.
